Until 4 years ago I was a product fiend. This obsession with self-care products started in my teenage years
I had zero regard for the ingredients, was hugely misinformed and very uneducated about it all. I didn’t know a sulphate from a phthalate
Seductively Packaged Products
All seductively packaged in glossy bottles, jars and tubes, decorated with stealthy marketing dialogue. Encouraging us to slather, spray and smooth the most disgusting mix of what can only be described as potentially hazardous materials. These were not just body lotions and deodorants; they were not simply face creams and shampoo. What they were was potentially lethal, and I didn’t want this near me, my mother or my daughter. I needed to find out if my fears were justified. I needed to know more about them. I started to do my research.
My Mother's deodorant
In my mother’s deodorant there were 5 chemicals listed: methylparaben (E number E218), 4' –trichloro-2'-hydroxydiphenyl ether, DBP (dibutyl phthalate), Propylene Glycol and Aluminium. I decided to allocate 20 minutes to researching these, simply to de-funk their meaning! After 4 hour, I was engrossed and horrified to discover these toxins were damaging on so many levels. The list of potentially negative impacts on the human body were hormone unbalancing, fertility impairing, endocrine altering and carcinogenic. Some had been linked to ADHD, thyroid imbalances, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer, Alzheimer’s, the list was nauseating.
At that very moment, my view of ‘self-care’ changed forever and the Sakrid journey began. Every day we are silently exposed to countless harmful chemicals and toxins that can be damaging to our health and our planet. They are hidden in the everyday products from the brands that we trust; and they simply don’t need to be there. We have removed all of these harmful chemicals and toxins across a growing range of everyday products without compromising on quality or performance.
